Re: General OOC chat
Oh and as far as tranquilizer guns, the problem there is dosage. The darts vets use are custom made up to handle the size critter they're using it on. For any kind of general carry or use, there are too many variables. If you make the darts to handle, say, someone the size of Sunny, they're too weak for the Darnathi's Zillas. If you make it potent enough to stop one of them, it'd kill someone the size of Sunny or Artemis. The shock lances have a computerized capacitor that delivers just enough voltage for the target size.

Re: General OOC chat
Ok. So no firearms. Got it. But does that still count out the usage of the "Throw and Retrieve" tactic with the lances I had mentioned? (Sorry 'bout all this)
Re: General OOC chat
OK the Bunny ray was more a joke from me as anything else ^^
The explanation I heard was that it was a upsy invention and nobody in the R&D really know how it works
what I can think of semilong range weapons are
Tazers (same technologie as the lances but only one shoot before the cardridge has to be swapped)
Netthrowers (can be adjusted with Shocks but same as Tazers only one shoot and big and heavy)
Soapthrowers (Like waterpistols but they use antipersonasoap that stuff is extremly sticky and greasy that you can´t stand, walk or fight and yes that stuff exist in the real world)

As far as dosage goes, I was thinking more of long range weapons (like sniper rifles and such), so in any case you should have time to choose the dart with the right dosage.
Anyway, I don't feel the urge to build weapons, unless asked for. There are better ways to neutralize someone. I like the soapthrower idea
Also, it seems to me that the non-lethal policy also tends towards non-aggressive as well, right?
@Keir: nice, but if you throw your only weapon at someone you'll easily end up kicked in your butt.

Re: General OOC chat
Hm. Interesting thoughts Angus. Although the single shot thing might be a bad idea.... The Soapthrower sounds.... more funny than anything. Sorry. XD
@Gaarran: True yes, but if the recruits are trained in hand-to-hand, it wouldn't matter as much, because should their weapon be "used up", they will still have some form of defense, no? But you bring about a very good point on everything.
Maybe after we learn a bit about Aukate from Commander Tigermark, we could try learning some more training stuff leaning towards the Throw and Retrieve ethod and hand-to-hand. (If you go back towards the beginning of Day 2, Keir, Angus, Razor and Eddie share a few stories about tavern fights and such, so it shouldn't be too hard to perfect those right?

Re: General OOC chat
The soapthrower is actually a idea of several allready invented things
and it´s use would pretty much make good youtube videos
but you are right Keir
we should wait for some of the commanders to give us a in and out of aukate ^^

Re: General OOC chat
Actually guys I'm waiting on some cues from Foxena. This is her world, and I don't want to put forth on it without some guidance from her. Don't want to steer y'all wrong on anything.

Re: General OOC chat
That is quite alright Tigermark. Sorry if my comment seemed a bit rude. I understand.
Re: General OOC chat
Oh. And as a side note, For anyone who attempted to talk to me in Day 1 and never got a response, I apologize. My system had shut down for quite some time and by the time I got back to Day 1, it was already almost too far along to get anything done/caught up. so, if you wish to try speaking to me again, go ahead and PM me or put it in my Literature thread.
Re: General OOC chat
(Apologies for the 'in-a-row' posts.)
For those of you in R&D working on the Fluid Map Projector, I have an idea as to what you could do to create the film thingy needed for the map portion. What about a magnetic based fluid?

Re: General OOC chat
That's what we were shooting for, ferrofluids: oils with tiny iron particles suspended in them. I think a basic mix can be made at "home" by using printer toner (not ink) and canola oil? But more industrial (and stable) mixes require a bit of prep work...

You're right, toner is perfect https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsQh1AT6qUE

Re: General OOC chat
Hmmm. What about this? What if you were to suspend the ferrofluid in some sort of thin membrane like structure? Such as the ink sac is in a squid. It involves a thin, almost transparent film-like membrane filled with the ferrofluid, and using the magnetic waves and such in the base, it could be formed and shaped. (But you've probably figured that out by now LOL). However, as for the color aspect, I'm not sure what you would use for that, unless you took the printer ink/toner idea and made it into a ferrofluid as well.

I feel a bit frustrated because for the group scientific exercise, I'm paired up with Ezra Stewart's Gu Jiao character, and now it's been over a month since he last visited the site. I'm wondering what I can do to get around the whole problem and not get left behind by the marvelous progress the other group has been making lately.

Re: General OOC chat
I have a question about the setting: what are the main energy sources of the islands? I can imagine solar on the summer islands, maybe wind power on spring/autumn ones, but then? Maybe geothermal? Did Overlord's scientists ever experiment with nuclear (maybe fusion, since it should be clean)? I'm curious!

Re: General OOC chat
As far as I recall the islands were primarily nuclear. Maybe some remote locales are powered by alternate sources but I'd imagine that's more for sheds and other small things not worth stringing out lines for, and maybe some of the big projects at the Citadel that we don't want draining the main grid, but that's all up to Fox.

Re: General OOC chat
Yes I think Socks is correct. Fox has talked about it a few times. And Nuclear is the primary source.
Re: General OOC chat
Cool. Can't wait to get to the Citadel and discover more!

Sorry I haven't posted yet. I need to find a way to fake general programming knowledge so that Lukas can answer the question posed to him.

Re: General OOC chat
Well keep this in mind. It's perfectly OK to speak in generalities. We're not going into super exact make it work or die type of discussions. So don't over think it or freak out over minor details. At the end of the day this is supposed to be fun.
